Map?

[edit]

Anyone got a map we could use to show the extent of European colonisation? Would be a useful reference I think 41.240.80.150 (talk) 14:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sagallo, Liberia

[edit]

Shouldn't Sagallo be added as a Russian colony? In the case of Liberia the word "colony" seems a bit ambiguous. The Americans weren't trying to take over some land, they were trying to move population out of the US. They didn't desire to take over a part of Africa and make it their own. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 19:35, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Liberia is not colonized

What defines a colony?

[edit]

I have made some changes to the list of Portuguese colonies, but it seems difficult to classify many of these as true colonies. Many are trading posts or territories with minimal presence or control. So the question is: What exactly can we consider a colony? Should we review the list and the overall numbers again to determine what Portugal, and other countries, actually had in terms of colonies?
