Etymology

[edit]

@Chiswick Chap: I'm somewhat confused by your reversion of my edit. In your edit summary, you noted that the type species D. zibethinus is "certainly important" – I agree, and that is why I added more information about how it came to be called D. zibethinus. The previous version noted that "zibethinus" means "civet" but did not explain how this relates to durians. Zacwill (talk) 13:07, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

OK, well if you want more explanation then it can be added; clearly the durian stink reminded folks of civet stink. No intention to remove any addition, but your edit comment spoke of removal, as did the -87 bytes in the edit summary. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:10, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I said that I was removing the variant spellings, which seemed unimportant (all of them being obsolete). You're free to disagree with me on this, but there was no need to undo the rest of my edit. Zacwill (talk) 13:15, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It was simply unclear, that was all. I've added a bit more about the civet thing. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:22, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Chiswick Chap: Regarding the punctuation, the use of double quotes is correct in this instance according to MOS:WAW and MOS:DOUBLE. "Durian" is neither a gloss nor the name of a plant cultivar. Zacwill (talk) 14:31, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
